2010 BE Together Review
Ron Brys and Bob Mecham from Envision attended and presented sessions at this years Bentley BE Together event in Philadelphia. This year’s attendance numbers may not have been at the levels of previous years but attendees from all over the world were present. Users we spoke to deemed this year’s event as successful due to the increased focus on technical sessions and a concentration on user productivity. The event was given back to the users with sessions and workshops on the latest V8i SELECTseries 1 software along with peeks into future releases. The trade floor was referred to the Live Zone with interactive booths where attendees could test drive all the software while sampling the food and beverages provided by Bentley.
The two coolest things Bob saw at the conference were Pointools software integration with MicroStation that will handle massive point cloud data. The integration and advances of Luxology rendering engine in MicroStation is a huge plus.
The interesting (and production enhancements) that Ron saw was numerous. These included persistent and associated annotation for alignments, Civil Geometry tools, Civil Accudraw, new overlay template components and the incorporation of associate site design tools from GEOPAK into InRoads.
A look ahead for MicroStation would be the SELECTseries releases. Future releases of MicroStation will be done as SELECTseries updates, (SELECTseries 2) is due out this summer, and (SELECTseries 3) will be out at the end of 2010.
