OpenRoads Technology Released by Bentley

OpenRoads TechnologyWritten by Ronald Brys.

Bentleys’ OpenRoads technology has been released. It is now available as a download for Select subscribers.  However, don’t look for a product named OpenRoads. Why? Because it does not exist. OpenRoads is a technology, not a product.  The technology is being incorporated as a common command set in the SELECTseries 3 releases of InRoads, GEOPAK and MX Roads.

OpenRoads technology will change the way you work,  it’s not simply a version upgrade but it does maintain your investment in past technology. Nevertheless, items such as Site Modeler, Templates, Cross Sections, and even Roadway Designer are no longer found on the traditional InRoads menus. These functions are now found in the task menus and as context sensitive heads-up commands, or can be addressed through in-place editing.  One major indicator of just how different it is can be captured by this: The design data, including geometry, surfaces, and corridor definitions, are now stored in the CAD file, not in external data files.
