Civil 3D 2026 Tip: Use Project Explorer to Edit Multiple Assemblies and Subassemblies

Civil 3D 2026 includes the feature Project Explorer in the Home ribbon. This tool can be used for more than just creating reports and visualizing sections. It can be used as a multi selection editor.

Key Features and Benefits

Using the Project Explorer gives you a non-graphic option to select multiple subassemblies and assemblies with the added benefit of being able to edit the settings and parameters of all members of the selection.

In the above image, notice the lane thickness of each assembly.

  • Open Project Explorer.
  • Select the Assemblies tab on the top, then select Show All Subassemblies.
    • Use Ctrl or Shift button to select multiple subassemblies. In this example, we are selecting all the Lane subassemblies used on each assembly.
    • Select the parameter you wish to modify and then click on it to reveal the input dialog.
      • Modify the value of the parameter. In this example, we change the value from 1’ to 0.08’.
    • Each of the lane thickness parameters in all the assemblies change to the value of 0.08’.

    Change Multiple Assembly Settings

We can also make multiple selections and changes to the assemblies within the same tab of Project Explorer.

    • Change the filtering option on the Assemblies tab of Project Explorer to Show All Assemblies.
      • Select a group of assemblies. In this example we selected each assembly except the Divided Highway.
      • Once selected, use the mouse right-click to access the menu.
      • Select the setting or option to edit. In this example, we select Set Code Set Style(s).
        • The input dialog appears with a drop-down selection option.
      • Notice the assemblies we selected have all changed to the Code Set Style we selected.

Project Explorer has many more options to assist with different Civil 3D design process. Take a little time to investigate ways it can be added to your workflows.
