Civil 3D Tip: Shade Corridor Materials in Plan View

Creating shaded materials within a Civil 3D corridor allows you to visualize the model in plan view. Colors, hatches, and shading can represent materials like pavement or concrete, grading areas, or surfaces. Any defined link in the corridor can be assigned a shade style.

Accomplishing this task requires editing the code set style to assign a Material Area Fill Style to the relevant corridor links.

Create the Code Set Style

To create a Code Set Style that shades the link codes:

  • Access the Code Set Styles on the Settings tab of the Toolspace, right-click and select New
  • Name the Code Set Style
  • Use the Imported Codes button on the Codes tab to select the corridor to import the codes
  • The new code set style is now populated with the codes that are used in the corridor
  • Expand the Link section to see all the link codes
  • Choose a link code from the list, then assign a shaded style from the Material Area Fill Style column

Create and Edit Shape Styles to Use for Material Area Fill Styles

There are styles developed in the base Civil 3D templates that can be used as well as modifying or creating your own shade and hatch style.

The Material Area Fill Style for shading the Links in plan view uses the Shape Style. They are the same.

The Shape Styles can be accessed on the Settings tab of the Toolspace palette.
