MicroStation SELECTseries 3 Released

MicroStation SS3 is out!

The SS3 dependent platforms are sure to follow soon. Browsing the SELECTservices download pages will provide a link to the SS3 release. One thing you will notice is the prerequisite pack is no longer a separate download. Caution should be used while installing SS3 as it shares some folders and files as older versions. We recommend that the new release be installed on a machine other than a production unit that may have dependencies for software certified for previous versions.

A few highlights:
• 3D modeling and mesh enhancements to sweep and mesh commands
Bentley DGN reader for Windows 7
Thematic Display Styles
• Additional integration of Autodesk formats FXB and RealDWG 2012
• The addition of a terrain model element and ability to view and label contours and spot elevations
• Detailing symbol enhancements
• Military Grid, local transformations & Google Map integration
• Synchronization between references and saved views
• Visualization enhancements are too many to name

View the readme file for additional information on this release.  In addition to the readme file you can check out the product page and PDF document “What’s New in V8i (SELECTseries 3)“.

I am inquiring on SS3. My firm already has completed Phase I construction Plans a fairly large Highways and Bridges project. Over the course of the next month, I would like to put a 3D animation of road and interchange using the elements of SS3.

I have installed SS3 and Geopak on a separate station with all the project info from the original .tin, .gpk, profiles cross-sections, etc. The problem is I dont know where to start.

The development of the actual road/interchange would be nice. Do I need to know my way around Roadway Designer and/or other applications in addition to my fair understanding of MSV8i (SS2) and Geopak?

    Thank you for your time.

Hi Robert, no you do not need to know Roadway Designer to complete the animation. You will however need to get the 3D data from the engineers/designers. Either the surface TIN triangles or the 3D components from the Roadway Designer. You will need to assign materials to the triangles such as the grass, road, shoulder, etc. We have a number of videos on our website regarding 3D Visualization https://envisioncad.com/tag/3d/
We also provide training using your project data. If you would like more information contact me directly. bob at envisioncad dot com
