MicroStation Tip: Design File Settings that are User Preferences

There are some design file-based settings that can vary from file to file, causing annoyance and confusion. The more common ones are the default Snap mode and Multi-Snap settings, along with the Element Selection and Highlight colors.

Fortunately, these can be set in your User Preferences. When set as a User Preference, these will override whatever design file setting has been configured.

Default Snap Mode

In the User Preferences dialog, select the Operation category. In the category settings, you will see an option to Use Snap Mode from Preferences. When toggled on, your active Snap mode is saved to your preferences and will be the active Snap mode for the next dgn file you open. This will also save any Multi-Snap settings you have configured.

Selection and Highlight Colors

The View Options category allows for saving the Element Highlight and Selection Set colors to your user preferences. Once you set these, those color settings will be the same no matter which file you open.
