When launching MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, OpenBridge Modeler, or other similar application you may occasionally encounter a warning dialog similar to the following:

The most likely cause for this kind of message is from a Windows update, Microsoft Office update, or an update from another application that supports VBA. There are two ways to fix this issue, but both require administrator access to your computer. If you do not have administrator access to your computer, contact your IT support staff for assistance.
Option 1 – Regserver
Try this option first, as it is quicker than Option 2.
- Make a copy of your application’s starting shortcut on your Windows desktop. In this example, we are working with OpenRoads Designer 2024, but this applies to MicroStation and other MicroStation-based applications as well.
- Right-click on the shortcut and select Properties from the pop-up menu.

- In the Properties dialog, click in the end of the Target field. After the double quote (“) character, type in a space followed by /regserver.

- Click the OK button to save the change and close the dialog.
- Right-click on the shortcut again and select Run as administrator.

- In the pop-up, click Yes to allow the application to make changes to your system.
- Double-click on the custom shortcut you have created to execute the /regserver command.
- If it executes successfully, then launch your application using your normal shortcut to verify the VBA issue has been fixed.
- If you get a failure message when executing the /regserver command or you are still getting the VBA warning message when launching your application, move on to Option 2.

Option 2 – Remove and Reinstall
In the event Option 1 fails, your other recourse is to totally remove your application.
- Using the Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps tool, remove the application.
- Once the application has been removed, it is typically a good idea to reboot your computer.
- After the reboot, reinstall the application.
