OpenBridge Modeler Tip: Adding “Extra” Deck Components

Once a deck has been place, “extra” deck components can be added. To prepare for the new deck component, the existing deck component may need to be adjusted. In the model file, select the deck. The deck can be offset from the alignment in either direction from the properties menu. It will likely be in the negative direction (down) so that the alignment stays on the top of the bridge deck.

Now that the deck has been moved to make room for the new wearing surface component of the deck, the wearing surface can be placed. In the Ribbon, navigate to OpenBridge Modeler > Home > Superstructure > Place Deck. This will launch the Place Deck tool where the deck template is chosen and a Vertical Offset can be assigned, along with other settings. These other options will allow for the placement of items like curbs and sidewalks.

Once the template has been placed, the template can be customized:

  • Selecting the Variable Constraint: SELECT to Edit (ellipse to the right) brings up the SingleDeckTemplateWindow where the variable assigned in the Template Creation dialog can be edited.
  • Selecting the Point Control: SELECT to Edit (ellipse to the right) brings up the Edit Point Controls dialog where the points from the template can be assigned to follow a specific geometry.
