OpenBridge Modeler Tip: What’s New in OBM 2023

There are a number of changes in the 2023 version of OpenBridge Modeler. In a previous article, we covered the 2D/3D separation. This article will be about the pier transition block option now available.

OpenBridge Modeler 2023 now has the option for creating a Transition Block on the Pier Cap. This can be used when the Beams or Girders depths change at the Pier. As an example, we have the following Pier with the Bearing Seats raised at an extended height.

We can lower one side (ahead or back) to shorten the Bearing Seats depth by following these steps:

  • Select the Pier via Explorer, right-click and open the Properties.
  • Under the Substructure Placement Rule panel, open the Substructure Template to edit the Pier.
    • In the Substrate Template dialog, check on the Transition Block toggle.
    • Select the Transition Block Position (Ahead or Back).
    • Enter the desired dimensions for the:
      • Transition Block Width (“)
      • Transition Block Depth (“)
    • Click the OK button and view the change in the Pier.
