OpenRoads Designer Tip: Level Management in the Sheet Model
How does OpenRoads Designer manage levels in the sheet model? If you’ve ever tried to turn off a Level in a reference file in the Sheet Model only to have it turned on again the next time you open it, there’s a reason for this.
Management of Level display in Sheet Models created through ORD’s Plan Production process is intended to be done in the Design Model View 1. Levels are to be turned on/off in all references in the Design Model where Named Boundaries were created, and those changes carry through to the Drawing and Sheet Model. The proper function of this behavior depends on the set up of the reference files through the Design, Drawing, and Sheet Model. These settings are typically applied to the Sheet Seed DGNLIB so they are present when the sheets are created.
To review this setting, open a Drawing Model in a dgn where sheets have been created. Open the References dialog, select the Design Model reference, right-click, and select Presentation from the menu.
The Presentation dialog will open.
At the bottom of the dialog, under Clip Volume Settings, note that the Synchronize View option is set to “Settings From Design Model.” This instructs the software to use the levels set in the Design Model and push them through to the Drawing and Sheet Model. This prevents level on/off changes made in the Drawing and Sheet models from being retained.
A plan sheet is used in this example. To manage the levels from the Design Model as described above, the Default 2D model would need to be set as the active model in View 1.
This behavior has some nuance, as there are other factors that can affect this functionality.
