What is your professional background?Worked in the private sector for two AEC firms for around 10 years. During that time I was a Survey Crew Chief, Project Resident Engineer, Senior Designer, CAD Manager, Plotting System Administrator, Visualization Expert and general go-to-guy.
What made you get involved in the CAD industry? When I started my first job I was a rod-man on a survey crew that first winter I was introduced to CAD and thoroughly enjoyed the work.
What 3D CAD software version are you currently using and what additional software tools do you use by the same vendor?MicroStation and InRoads V8i (SELECTseries 3) and AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 and 2014.
What tool couldn’t you live without?AccuDraw! If you have ever taken one of my classes you know how much I emphasize it in training.
What are some of the coolest software tools on the market you’ve seen?Autodesk and Bentley Systems never disappoint. I still like keeping up to date on the visualization software and Luxology and e-on Software has some new releases that are pretty cool.
What projects are you currently working on?Currently I am working with WisDOT developing and enhancing Civil 3D standards and producing WisDOT specific video training.
What do you like most about your job? What I like most about my job is problem solving. I work with clients to develop the best workflow to complete their designs as on time and under budget.
What’s the worst part about your job?Visualization deadlines are the worst part. There always seems to be some kind of glitch in the 3D model or software that causes me to work the weekend.
What is the coolest CAD technology you’ve seen in the last decade?Intelligent terrain models and dynamic digital design.
What trends, predictions, etc. do you see in the CAD industry? All projects will be completed as 3D digital designs. There will be less emphasis on the printed sheets and more on the design model.
What are your future professional and/or personal goals?Continue to learn all I can about the Autodesk® Infrastructure Design Suite and Bentley Systems new OpenRoads Technology.
What is the coolest project that you’ve ever worked on?Two projects come to mind The Kalahari Resort and Water Park in the Wisconsin Dells and the Barbados Boardwalk project.
