Layoffs, budget cuts, lack of hardware upgrades, software versions that are two or more years old … These are just some of the immediate losses we are experiencing in our CAD departments as a result of economic uncertainty. Fewer users, lack of funding, less than efficient hardware and software certainly make the CAD job more demanding. This raises the question, “How are we supposed to do more with less?”
Of course, as a Super CAD professional you want to be sure that the infrastructure and systems are running at maximum efficiency when you are trying to do more with less manpower. This is the only way to stay on time and budget with current projects. But with minimal budget, how can you upgrade to more efficient workspaces?
Without upgrading, current systems can be analyzed via a CAD audit to discover any workflow gaps and inefficiencies. Some time spent on this, can allow for amendments and development of new workflows that will make current systems more efficient. This work goes a long way toward improved efficiency and is a worthwhile investment of time and minimal budget that can allow for a greater return and ease in project completion. Not to mention, it also sets the groundwork for a smooth transition and implementation when hardware and software upgrades become feasible once again. Meticulous standards of practice will make it that much easier to train users as well.
Viewing these hard economic times with optimism by using the time to analyze and revamp current CAD systems, will take your company further than the pessimistic groaning about out-of-date, dysfunctional systems. If lack of manpower and inefficiencies has you solely under the gun for project completion then a CAD managed service solution may be the appropriate investment for your company to do more with less and prepare for future success.
If you want to learn about specific strategies to “do more with less” during these times, or you would like to discuss CAD managed service solutions, please contact us or call us at 608.836.3903. We are here to supply the optimistic solutions!
