Working in Cartography and GIS using MicroStation and its predecessor (IGDS) it was a natural progression.
What 3D CAD software version are you currently using and what additional software tools do you use by the same vendor?MicroStation, InRoads, Bentley Map, and IPlot from Bentley
AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Map 3D from Autodesk.
All of my current projects are programming. Developing macros for Civil 3D in VB.NET, and for MicroStation in VBA and MDL.
What do you like most about your job?
The variety of the work:
- Programming
- Developing and delivering training
- Developing CAD workspaces and resources
What’s the worst part about your job?
The unpleasant jolt you get from that first sip when Bob makes the coffee – aka Mecham Mudd
What is the coolest CAD technology you’ve seen in the last decade?
The advancement of 3D rendering and visualization. I still remember crashing the VAX in IGDS trying to render a few simple cubes. As a map geek, I think the continuing integration of GIS into CAD is pretty cool too.
What trends, predictions, etc. do you see in the CAD industry?
More emphasis on mobile applications and CAD on the cloud.
What is the coolest project that you’ve ever worked on?
There were several at the CIA that involved quickly getting information on current world events to the President and other government officials.
